Design Bureau Ametist was founded on the base of the Plant No. 782 under the Order of the Minister of the Shipbuilding Industry of the USSR on April 10, 1950. The goal was to develop and manufacture naval artillery control systems. Design Bureau Ametist has over fifty years of history as a leading developer of artillery and fire control systems for shipboard and coastal artillery of the Soviet/Russian Navy. We produce the most commonly used and the most essential naval armament – shipboard artillery. So far, our enterprise has developed and upgraded over a dozen of shipboard artillery systems and control systems for gun mounts of different calibers installed practically on all ships of the Russian Navy. These are such worldwide known shipboard systems as Zalp, MR-103, MR-104, MR-114, MR-123, MR-145, MR-184 and their modifications, modern products – 5P-10 and its modifications, as well as the MR-195 coastal artillery fire control system for the Bereg artillery system. In the 70-ies, DB Ametist JSC developed the most commonly used system – the Osa-M antiaircraft missile system being currently in operational service. Apart from radar fire control systems, our Design Bureau develops optoelectronic control systems such as the Kondensor, Rakurs, PAL-N navigation systems as well as systems providing electromagnetic compatibility of shipborne radioelectronic facilities. Over two and a half thousand systems have been produced; nearly 1,500 out of this number have been exported to more than 20 countries. Apart from weapons and defense equipment, DB Ametist JSC along with leading medical centers in the Russian Federation develops medical equipment and performs clinical trials of medical equipment. For example, the Ametist magnetotherapy apparatus was developed in cooperation with Institute of Biophysics Medical Research Center, whereas the Magister ophthalmological apparatus – in cooperation with S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Complex.

Current activities
At present, the enterprise carries out the following basic activities:
1. Military and defense equipment:
- development and upgrading of shipboard artillery systems designed to destroy coastal, marine and air targets; these systems include gun mounts, control systems, ballistic and guided munitions;
- development and upgrading of artillery and missile fire control devices, their component and constituent parts;
- development and upgrading of radar and optical-electronic devices for naval and coastal artillery fire control systems, radar data processing units;
- development and upgrading of artillery and missile fire control units;
- development, fabrication and upgrading of control systems for automated gun mount mechanisms;
- development, fabrication and upgrading of navigation radar stations for the Russian Navy ships;
- development, fabrication and upgrading of automated systems providing electromagnetic compatibility of radioelectronic facilities on the Russian Navy ships;
- erection supervision, adjustment, precomissioning, and repair works; warranty and post-warranty service of the supplied products installed on various facilities.
2. Consumer goods: – development, fabrication and upgrading of medical equipment (particularly, Ametist magnetotherapy units and Magister ophthalmological apparatus).

The above activities at our enterprise are performed by our main design divisions (nearly 260 employees), including the Design Dept. (nearly 40 employees) and the Manufacturing Engineering Dept. (nearly 20 employees), as well as by manufacturing personnel of our experimental workshop (nearly 55 employees). DB Ametist JSC is located in an office and manufacturing building at the following address: Yuzhnoportovaya St., 3a, Moscow, 115280 Russia. The territories adjacent to this building are allocated for garages, parking, electric power substation, overhead road. The total area of buildings and facilities is 15,023 ths sq. meters. The production floor at our enterprise is 5.3 ths sq. meters. The average staffing number is nearly 450 employees. DB Ametist JSC is in the list of strategic enterprises and strategic joint-stock companies approved by the Decree of the Russian President. DB Ametist JSC develops and exports its products through diverse and decades-long cooperation of enterprises in the military-industrial sector, including the shipbuilding industry, such as FSUE Topaz Plant (Moscow), RATEP JSC (Serpukhov), FSUE GMZ Salyut (Moscow), Kurs JSC (Moscow), Izumrud JSC (Vladivostok), NPP Kaluga Instrument-Making Plant Taifun JSC (Kaluga), etc.
