April, 26 1942, upon the order No.192 of the People's Commissar of Shipbuilding Industry of the USSR, the plant No.703 was founded, which was later named the Federal State Unitary Enterprise (FSUE) State Moscow Plant Salyut.
The first products of the plant were the cases of mines and powder chambers for the rockets of the legendary Katyusha launcher. Since 1944, the enterprise started output of radars, surveillance systems and naval artillery fire control systems, which later became the main products of the plant. The radars of the types Pegmatit, Redan, Vympel, Gyuys, Yakor, Rif, Angara and Fut-N were produced.
In the fifties years of the past century, the designing department of Salyut started the independent development of complex radars. Such radars as Kaktus, Rubka, Kil, Kliver, etc., used in the most of surface ships of the Navy of the USSR were developed then.
In the sixties, the plant Salyut participated in a space projects. The onboard equipment Astra and Sever, as well as the land-based station Podsnezhnik, designed to secure of spacecrafts operation at launch, during the powered flight and in orbit, were put into serial production. During the second half of the sixties, the first three-dimensional radar Voskhod was developed. This radar surpassed the foreign analogues by a number of parameters. Among the latest developments of the Salyut designing department are the early warning radars of the Podberezovik family and the multifunctional jam-resistant radars of the Fregat family.
The highest efficiency of radar is achieved when operated along with the ship data processing and target destination systems of the type Poyma. Basing on the cutting-edge technologies, the enterprise has developed the civil production for satellite navigation systems GLONASS, NAVSTAR and other communication systems.
At the turn of the century, in difficult economic conditions, the FSUE State Moscow Plant Salyut developed the new generation radars and target location systems. The high technical level of these products enabled the enterprise to make a number of profitable export contracts.
